Accepting credit cards and PCI compliance

Starting in July of 2010 it will be required for any business accepting credits cards online, or offline, to become PCI compliant. Implications for online web stores will affect all online stores and most have not even heard of being PCI compliant yet.

This has many stipulations and the big one is in regards to non storage of customer credit cards. Credit card merchant companies will pose penalties, or even refuse the merchant service if not complying with their rules.

The ecommerce solution Miditech uses mainly is Miva Merchant 5. Miva has made a large comittment for their customers To be PCI compliant.

Miditech has also made a commitment in this regard for our Miva Merchant customer in regards to Miva Merchant PCI compliance on the hosting side. Our soon to be launched Toronto data centre network (launching in March/April 2010) will be ensuring PCI compliance on the hosting side by July 2010.

Miditech has also made sure that our new host network online billing system is also PCI Compliant by July 2010.

We will post more details on this in future posts as well. Just something to start being aware of… PCI compliance rules are set for July 2010. And that is not that far off.

Want Some Viagra or Pharmaceuticals? GRRR SPAMMERS!!

The latest virus threat that has been in the news media this month is the Conficker Virus.

With millions of computers infected, Conficker-Infected Systems Started Spewing Massive Spams. As a result there has been a huge increase in spam globally.

Our customers are no different then other host company customers in this regard. To be blunt, we are all getting nailed by this sudden influx of spam, the majority of which appear as Viagra and Pharmaceutical ads.

Consumers and hosts alike are completely sick and tired of spam. It is a continuous fight and we fight the good fight. It seems like a long a windy road most difficult to make straight.

But it is not all doom and gloom…

Server Moves

As previously announced, Miditech has added a new Linux server to our cluster of servers.

We will be rearranging some accounts to be moved to the new server to better balance loads and resources across the network to increase performance.

These moves are an internal process of the Hsphere control panel and there should not be any downtime of website, email or database services when we move such customer accounts.

If your ftp suddenly stops working, try checking the FTP user ftp hostname setting in your host control panel to see if it has changed to the new server, which is web03.mywebsitepanel.com. CHange this in your ftp client software and it should work.

If your site is in the middle of a move (a 24 hours process), ftp will be disabled during the content moves and will resume in 24 hours. Contact technical support if you have any questions.

Note: Reseller accounts will NOT be moved until one of our technical support staff contacts the reseller.
